Apartment Living Do Not Mean Awful Living

When you live in an apartment there are things you cannot change, leaving a lot to be desired. With that being said you can get creative. What I mean by creative is doing upgrades that is allow while you are living in an apartment.

Flooring:

In a lot of apartments, you can find some hideous kitchen and bathroom floors. As a tenant you are not going to be able to pull up the flooring and replace it, and why would you. You are only renting for a brief period.

There is an easy fix for those floors. Try peel and stick flooring. This type of flooring is made of vinyl and comes in an assortment of colors and textures. This easy DIY project will take no time to do. The materials that you would need is already in your junk drawer.

Tape measure
Pencil
Straight ledge
Utility knife

Begin with a clean floor, this will assure that the vinyl flooring will sick. When laying the peel and stick start from the center of the room and work outward to the walls. To assure that your floor is spaced correctly use spacer for floor panels.

Peel and stick are not only for floors. There are also peel and stick for kitchen and bathroom backsplash.

Those Appliances:

We have all seen it. You are shown an apartment and you decided to rent the apartment. But the appliances have seen better days. You can first ask your property owner if you can paint the appliances with paint that are made for appliances. Now if your property owner tells you he/she do not want you to paint the appliances there is another option. Cover the appliances with vinyl wrap. It’s like wallpaper film that will stick onto the appliances. Faux stainless steel is extremely popular for covering apartment appliances but there are other assorted colors.

Plain Walls:

Ok your property owner does not want you to paint the walls. So, now you must deal with white, beige or gray walls. These are neutral colors but just think about what you can really do with that. Bring the colors in your furniture and accessories. Lets’ say blue is your color. You have cream or white sofa, add some blue throw pillows. Try two or three different shades of blues but be sure that they complement each other. White walls may not be all that bad because you can change the room when you’re bored with the current room color. So, blue isn’t what you’re feeling any more change to red or any other color of your choice.

Ugly Carpet:

If there is a beige and dirty looking carpet instead of hardwood floors, try adding a colorful area rug on top of the carpet. This will pull your eyes off the carpet and on the area rug. Some would debate that adding an area rug on a carpet is a designer faux pas but if the right area rug is chosen it can work. I would not advise on adding a very bright color area rug or adding an area rug if for example the carpet is maroon.

The above tips are just a few things that can be done and then undone when you move. Keep in mind there are many things that can be done to make your apartment homie.
