Tiny Home Living

We have all seen it. How tiny homes are becoming more and more popular. But can you live in a tiny home. Lets’ review the pros and cons of tiny home living.

I have seen some tiny homes and I have to say they can be beautiful and well thought out. Thinking about getting a tiny home you may want to first find out if you can live in a tiny home.  A lot of people want to downsize to a smaller home, but a tiny home is a totally different situation. If you do decide to live in tiny home, you must think how do I make this home multi-functional. Lastly you will need to decide if you want to have your home stationary or able to move when it’s time for you to pick up and leave.

First thing first, can you really live in a tiny home. Lets’ say you’re a person who has a lot of clothes and shoes in your closet. Bringing them to your tiny new home isn’t an option.  You’re going to have to decide on what to bring and what to get rid of. Tiny home living is minimalist living and that can be hard for a person to get use too. So, before moving into a tiny home, how about a trial run first. Before committing try living in a tiny home for a month or two.  It may look appealing to you know but maybe after the trail run you may think differently. But after the trail run if you feel that tiny home living is for you. Go for it.

Storage, storage, and storage is the key to tiny home living. Every inch of your home needs to be used and multi-functional. Your stairs to the loft should also be pull out storage or drawers.  Under the same stairs the washer and dryer are tucked away. Even the bed can have storage by lifting the mattress. There are many other storage ideas, but you can explore that with the builder or if you’re the builder doing your research.

Most tiny home are movable home, meaning you can move your home from one lot to another lot. You probably will not be able to move your tiny home with a car. Instead, you will need a truck but not just any truck. It would need to be the weight capacity of the house. So, the truck should be up to or more than 15,000 towing capacities. Also keep in mind that diesel trucks tow better.  Besides getting the right truck you will need a trailer and trailer hitch that can pull the weight of a tiny home.

A tiny home does not always have to move around. A tiny home can be on foundation. You would need to check your state laws on tiny homes. Size, weight and getting a permit for your home.  Also check if it is legal to have a tiny home in your state because it’s not legal to have one in every state. One more thing to keep in mind when it comes to resell of a tiny home it isn’t easy to sell.
